Lewes Castle and Barbican House Museum
Dominating the town’s roofline is Lewes Castle, located in the heart of the town. A popular place to visit throughout the year, the Castle is also licensed for weddings and hosts a number of open air events during the summer. Steep climbs to the top of this and the adjacent keep are rewarded with spectacular views. A touch-screen computer and interactive tour model will enhance your visit to this impressive destination.

Lewes Priory
Founded by William de Warenne and his wife Gundrada between 1078 and 1082 on the site of a Saxon church, and dedicated to St. Pancras. Visits are limited to Open Afternoons during the summer season but the Herb garden is open throughout the year and tended by volunteers.

Anne of Cleves House
This formed part of her divorce settlement from Henry VIII in 1541, although she never actually lived there. The 16th century timber - framed Wealden hall - house contains wide - ranging collections of Sussex interest.

All Saints Centre

Charleston
The home of the artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell (sister of Virginia Woolf), became the country meeting place for the group of writers, artists and intellectuals known as Bloomsbury.

Railway Land
In Sussex, on the edge of Lewes by the River Ouse, are more than twenty acres of land, used for over fifty years as rail yards. When they were dismantled, they became a wasteland. After twenty-five years of benign neglect, the land was saved from development by a group of local residents.

Glynde Place
Home to the VIth Viscount and Viscountess Hampden, is a magnificent Elizabethan manor house dating back to 1569, sitting high on the Sussex Downs. Also home to events such as the Glynde Food & Drink Festival.

Firle Place
Set in an ancient park, Firle Place has been the home of the Gage family for over 500 years. Open to the public from May to September and for special event days.

Wellingham Walled Herb Garden
This 18th century garden, located just north of Lewes, was originally built as a kitchen garden and is open weekends and Bank Holidays April to October.

Bentley Wildfowl & Motor Museum
This beautiful Palladian mansion is surrounded by an estate and gardens containing an established wildfowl reserve, fascinating motor collection and much more.

Grange Gardens
A site of tranquillity and beauty, Southover Grange gardens remains one of the quieter places to picnic, view the collection of mature trees or just relax from the bustling Lewes town centre. The fine Elizabethan house was built in 1572 by William Newton, the Earl of Dorset, now very popular as a place to marry in the registry office.

Middle Farm

Bluebell Railway
The volunteer run Bluebell Line was the UK's first preserved standard gauge passenger railway, re-opening part of the Lewes to East Grinstead line of the old London Brighton & South Coast Railway in 1960. Since then it has developed into one of the largest tourist attractions in Sussex.
