Your Chamber of Commerce in 2012
Members of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee have spent the last 2 or 3 months reviewing what the Chamber should focus on in the coming year and beyond, and have identified four key priorities:
• Promoting local trade and commerce - including promotion of the town of Lewes, perhaps via a relaunched Town Guide, and the Christmas Shopping Festival
• Protecting the interests of the local business community - ensuring the Chamber is truly a voice for the business community and working to develop business to business benefits
• Support and advice to the business community - including providing a series of seminars and factsheets and, perhaps, a buddy system for new businesses in the town.
• Engagement with the wider community - including advice and work experience opportunities, providing grants to local groups, and generally keeping the profile of the Chamber high
We will discuss our ideas more fully with members at the AGM in the Spring, and will welcome your input in all these areas. So if you have knowledge, skills, experience and time you can share with fellow businesses in Lewes, please let us know.
Free Breakfast Seminar - 8th February
The Legal Requirements of Selling Online & Maximising the Visibility of Your Website
2011 was a difficult year for many businesses with the pace of economic recovery much slower than hoped, but Lewes is weathering the storm better than most. With the uncertainties in the broader UK economy and difficulties in the Eurozone, businesses are continuing to protect themselves against future downturns.
The New Year will see a new level of support for the local business community from the Chamber of Commerce.
As part of our plans for 2012 we will soon be announcing a programme of seminars and networking events to help you protect and grow your business. These events will cover key business topics such as employment, accounts management and dealing with unpaid invoices.
To kick off we are holding our first breakfast networking event on Wednesday 8th February at the new Mayo Wynne Baxter offices in Bell Lane, Lewes. Coffee and croissants will be served at 8am with networking until 8.30 when guest speaker Edward Coxall, Partner at Mayo Wynne Baxter, will give a brief introduction to the legal requirements of selling online and how to stay on the right side of distance selling regulations.
The second speaker is Adam Lee, Managing Director of search engine optimisation agency No Pork Pies, who will explain how to maximise a website’s visibility in key search engines like Google. With such vast quantities of goods and services now bought or researched online we expect places to go quickly.
This event is free to both members and non-members and to book your place please CLICK HERE or call 07917 382316.
